GALLANTRY & DISTINGUISHED AWARDS TO 26 ARMY OFFICERS – AWARD 3

Col Avin Uthaiya was the Commandant of 16 Light Cavalry. On 26 Sep 2013, he heard sound of automatic weapon fire and unmindful of the danger, he rushed to the site and charged at the terrorists with his weapon. In the ensuing battle, he got shot but he continued to fight till he fell unconscious. For acting with conspicuous bravery and disregard to personal safety, the officer is awarded ‘Sena Medal (Gallantry)’.
