Ferozepur Police conducts extensive anti-drug campaign with 48 Seminars in a week
Ferozepur, August 1, 2024: The Ferozepur Police, under the “Navekli Pehal Campaign,” has conducted a comprehensive series of activities aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and encouraging rehabilitation. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Soumya Mishra reported that from July 22 to 28, 26 seminars were held across government and private schools, parking areas, and IELTS institutes in remote locations. These seminars were organized with the support of Navekli Pehal, special awards, and Saanjh Teams.
Additionally, 22 more seminars took place in various locations across sub-divisions including Ferozepur City, Rural, Guruharsahai, and Zira. These events targeted a diverse audience, including boys’ and girls’ schools, cantonment board schools, truck unions, and local panchayats.
In the same week, the police initiated the process of freezing properties worth Rs. 60,17,380 belonging to five suspected drug smugglers. A Village Defense Committees (VDCs) meeting was also held on July 25 during a visit by the Government of Punjab.
The police issued 49 ‘kalandaras’ under Section and conducted surprise checks at drug hot spots. They also set up roadblocks (‘nakas’) for vehicle and person inspections. As a result of these efforts, six cases were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals and the seizure of 398 grams of heroin and 300 habit-forming drugs.
SSP Soumya Mishra emphasized that the campaign against drugs will continue as a sustained effort to eradicate the drug menace in the district.
