Ferozepur police gears up to tighten noose on ‘Drugs Supply King’
76 drug peddlers arrested in April
Ferozepur, April 17, 2022: The Ferozepur police is up in arms to tighten the noose of the ‘drug supply king’. With intensifying the anti-drug campaign in the district, today six people have been arrested for the recovery of heroin, illegal liquor and ‘bhuki’ in the district.
As per the details, six persons namely Parminder Singh, Ajay Kumar, Jagtar Singh, Gurjant Singh Jaj, Sunil Kumar and Ajay alias Happy have been arrested in the area of Mamdot, Guruharsahai, Ferozepur City, Cantt and Kulgarhi police stations with the recovery of 1.700 kg ‘bhuki’, 115 bottles illegal liquor, and 20 gm heroin.
During the last two weeks, in 66 cases registered, 70 persons were arrested including 8 women and there was also a recovery of 1100 illegal liquor bottles and 700 habit-forming drugs from four persons in village Kamalewala and local Ferozepur.
With the arrest of 8 women among 70 persons, it looks that from facing sexual abuse to becoming couriers, the menace of drug abuse has not missed Punjab’s women. In fact, Punjab has in recent years seen a rise in the cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against women. Both police and psychiatrists attribute the trend to the use of girls and women for peddling to avoid suspicion.
SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal said, the police have changed the action mode and the anti-drug campaign would continue to nab the ‘drug supply king’ who manages the supplies through the drug peddlers.
