Ferozepur Police celebrate Commemoration Day in simple and effective way

Ferozepur, October 21, 2020:  Amid corona curbs, the Ferozepur police celebrated Commemoration Day at Police Lines on Wednesday in a simple and effective manner.  The brave hearts who sacrificed their lives were remembered by observing 2-min silence and reversing arms as a mark of respect.

Present were Gurpal Singh Chahal, DC, Bhupinder Singh SSP, Amanpreet Singh CJM, Baljit Singh, SPH and Mukhtiar Rai, SPD. On this occasion, the police, civil administration and judicial officials paid floral tributes to the martyrs, which laid down their lives during terrorism in the State.

Addressing the ceremony. SSP Bhupinder Singh said that  in the wake coronavirus, this year, the police officers had personally honoured the kin of martyrs at their door-steps and we stood by them in every hour of need.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said, for the last several months, police officers from across the country have been working round the clock to ensure minimal violation of COVID-19 norms. On the frontline of the war against coronavirus, police officers have been risking their own lives to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Sharing about the history of Commemoration Day, he said, it dates back to October 21, 1959, when Chinese forces ambushed a patrol party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 10 jawans lost their lives as they continued to fight for the country at the Indo-Tibetan border. The Day is celebrated every year to pay homage to police officials who fight for the safety of others and ensure proper implementation of law and order besides keeping them alive by remembering.

He said that a total of 1784 police officers / staff were killed in Punjab including DIG- 2, SSP- 3, SP- 4, DSP- 12, Inspector- 32, Sub -Inspector- 61, Assistant Sub-Inspector- 111, Constable- 268, Soldier- 817, Home Guards Volunteer- 294 and SPO- 180 who sacrificed their precious lives while maintaining the unity and integrity of the country.

He said that out of these, 45 employees are associated with Ferozepur sub-Inspector-1, ASIs-4, HCs-4, sepoy-8, SPOs-5 and PSGs-16. He added that we have full respect for these martyrs and continue to associate with this spirit towards internal security as per its tradition.

On the occasion,DCthanked the guests and said that the history of Punjab Police is full of glorious and sacrifice.  The Punjab police has great contribution in sacrificing their lives to maintain the country’s unity integrity and communal harmony and peace in the country, which can never be forgotten.

The sacrifices of these great martyrs are a source of inspiration for generations to come, he added offering  heartfelt tributes to these martyrs.  He said, it is our duty to take care of the families of these great martyrs on priority basis.

Earlier, SP(H) Balbir Singh remembered the various officers and jawns, who had sacrificed their lives and also paid floral tributes followed by the tradition of reversing and resting on arms as the leaning on a weapon held upside down has been a mark of respect or mourning for centuries and two minutes silence as a mark of respect.
