Ferozepur November 11, 2017: With air pollution at unprecedented levels, the state has become a virtual gas chamber and due to poor visibility, taking the number of lives in road accidents. The government has to close down the schools besides changing the school timings.  Joggers, morning walkers, cyclists have stopped morning runs and staying at home.  Breathing problem has increased while moving in the foggy weather ultimately, putting the routine life to stand still.

Babushahi.com team collected views from different sections, the reason behind this smog for polluting the environment.

Shivani Arora, head of the government school said, the pollution is at the dangerous level due to polluted smog layer in the sky. In fact, the government and the administration are backing out from their responsibilities resulting in poor health conditions and losing the fertility of the earth.  With the increased population, the increase in the number of chronic diseases and reduction in the age is a cause of concern nowadays for which each one should be serious to contribute and cooperate with the circumstances.

Diwan Chand Sukhija, social activists were of the view that there is the number of reasons for an imbalance in the environment. The government should come up with innovative schemes for the better future of the society and country keeping aside the vote bank attitude.

Jatinder Sikri, a local citizen held responsible the farmer and government both. He said, the stubble burning is an old practice, the reason behind polluted environment in the state is cutting of trees for getting space for the highways. The trees were helpful in controlling the pollution and adding fresh air to the atmosphere. So far as the government is concerned, it has failed to design the roads in such a way that there had been minimum cutting of trees beside making arrangements for the management of stubble or other crop residues.

Janu – a young businessman said whatever may be the reason behind the smog conditions in the state, it would be better if the road conditions are made better with proper traffic lights, making mandatory to maintain speed and using the reflector on the front and back to avoid accidents.  The transport department should be given more powers but use them strictly without the interference of influential persons.  The created weather conditions have affected the business badly, he shared with face down.

Holding responsible the government for not making arrangements for the management of crop residues and poor infrastructure of road management, the only solution to face the present situation is while the people should bear the existing system, the governments should, without losing any further time, concentrate on making an in-depth study and keep a special budget for better management of crop residue and road infrastructure. The Smoggy atmosphere has killed all outdoor plans,  said Ashok Kataria a retired Sr.AO.
