Memorandum to DC to rollback excise duty imposed on jewellry
Ferozepur- March 11, 2016 : Ferozepur Swarnkar Sangh has flayed the centre Government for re-imposing the excise duty on gold jewellery after a gap of four years. In the protest the Jewelers association closed their business premises and organized a rally in the main bazaars of the city today also, in continuation of their strike of 40 days. Jewelers raised the anti- establishment and accused the centre Government for imposing excise duty on the jewelries. A delegation of the association gave a memorandum to the centre government through the deputy commissioner Ferozepur DPS Kharbanda urging the finance minister to roll back the excise duty imposed on the jewelries. In a statement the association said, that the imposition of the excise duty will affect hardly to the livelihood of the millions of skilled artisans engaged in making gold and diamond jewellery . according to the association, this policy is totally against the spirit of the Make in India and Skill India movement of the prime minister.
In the UPA Government time also the excise duty was imposed. But then the BJP opposed the move and it was rolled back
