Ferozepur Jail Incident: Warder Injured by Prisoner with sharp object
Ferozepur, July 22, 2024: A jail warder was injured after being attacked with a sharp object by an under-trial prisoner in Ferozepur Jail. The prisoner, originally lodged in Goindwal Jail for an attempted murder case, was recently transferred to Ferozepur Jail. The incident occurred when the prisoner resisted being confined in the ‘chakkis’ in the afternoon, leading to an altercation with the warder.
The prisoner verbally abused the warder, attacked him with a sharpened badminton racket handle, and tore his uniform. The warder, identified as Yadvinder, sustained injuries to both shoulders. A case has been registered against the prisoner under sections 132, 221, 121(1) BNS, and 42 of the Prisons Act for violating jail rules, assaulting, and disrupting the duties of Jail Assistant Superintendent Sukhjinder Singh.
The accused had broken the racket used for playing badminton, sharpened the rod of the handle, and used it to attack Warder Yadvinder. The police have received a written complaint, and further investigations are being conducted by Investigating Officer Sarwan Singh.
