Farmers’ Rail Roko agitation on Dec 30 to disrupt 221 trains amid demand for MSP guarantee

Ferozepur, December 29, 2024: In a significant move to press for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP), various farmer organizations have declared a nationwide Rail Roko Andolan on December 30, 2024. The protest is expected to disrupt rail services across the country, affecting 221 trains, including cancellations, short terminations, and diversions.

The Indian Railways has made arrangements to minimize inconvenience to passengers during this agitation. Trains stopped en route will halt at stations equipped with basic amenities, including refreshments. Additionally, helplines and public address systems will keep travellers informed about real-time updates on train schedules.

Measures for Passenger Assistance adopted are – Help Desks: Deployed at all major stations for real-time updates and guidance. Announcements: Continuous updates through public address systems.Refund Counters: Additional counters set up at major stations for processing ticket refunds.Information Dissemination: A bulk messaging system has been activated to provide updates about cancellations, diversions, and delays.

Railway supervisors and inspectors have been directed to remain at their respective headquarters to ensure passengers receive all necessary assistance.

The protest centers on the farmers’ demand for a legally binding MSP guarantee, a contentious issue that has reignited nationwide demonstrations. The agitators argue that without legal assurance, farmers remain vulnerable to exploitation and volatile market prices.

This agitation is a continuation of the farmers’ larger movement advocating for fair prices and sustainable agricultural policies. The Rail Roko Andolan symbolizes their frustration with the government’s inaction on their demands, underscoring the urgency of resolving this long-standing issue.

Meanwhile, the farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal began his fast unto death on November 26, 2024, at the Khanauri border, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops and his health is deteriorating day by day.

Passengers are advised to check train schedules and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
