Farmers on Rail Tracks in Punjab, demand higher compensation for land acquisition under BharatMala Pariyojna
Ferozepur, May 18, 2023: On a call from farmers outfits under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, the farmers today blocked the railway tracks in Ferozepur rail division on Ferozepur-Moga, Jalandhar, Fazilka, Ludhiana tracks in protest against acquiring of land under Bharat Mala Project, causing inconvenience to the passengers.
Added here, the Punjab government has sought from the Centre the inclusion of 13 road projects across the state in the Bharatmala Pariyojna and declaration of seven new road projects as National Highways. The Bharatmala Pariyojna is an ecosystem of road development which includes development of tunnels, bridges, elevated corridors, flyovers, overpasses, interchanges, bypasses, ring roads etc. to provide shortest, jam free & optimized connectivity to multiple places.
The farmers had been demanding a higher rate of acquired land than the market rate for the acquired land under Bharat Mala Project.
The farmers’ leader said the blocking of rail tracks in protest is for an indefinite period, till the demands are accepted.
State leaders Savinder Singh Chutala and Harvinder Singh Masani and senior leader of the organization Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the organization has been struggling for about 13 months and there have been 3 rail jam dharnas. It was assured by the district level administration that the land will not be acquired before the land money is paid. The registration of our protest by blocking the rail tracks as the government has lost its trust. We will continue to fight for the rights of the farmers.
