Excise and police joint operation thwart attempt of sale of 13,000 ltr ‘lahan’
Ferozepur, April 11, 2021: In a joint operation of Excise and police teams, on Sunday, thwarted the attempt of sale of 13,000 ltr illicit liquor – ‘lahan’ in a raid conducted in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surroundings of Ali ke & Chandi wala in Ferozepur City.
In the past also there had been huge recoveries of lahan and excise department had been up in arms after the major hooch incidents Amritsar and Tarn Taran taking more than 100 lives.
During the raid, 13,000 ltrs of lahan was recovered which was destroyed on the spot to avoid its misuse and any tragic incident taking the human lives. However, the material used for extracting the lahan – 13 tarpaulins, 3 drums was taken into custody as case evidence. None of the accused involved in this could be arrested as they fled away from the scene on seeing the raided party. Meanwhile, a case has been handed over to Narcotic Cell Ferozepur for further investigation and registration of FIR said the Excise official.
