EcoSikh organizes Natural Farming Workshop in Ferozepur

Natural Farming Workshop at LalchianFerozepur, April 2, 2016:  EcoSikh with a motto – Shaping a sustainable future – organized one days’ Natural Farming Workshop, in association with Living Successfully another organization  at village Lalchian in Guruharsahai Block in Ferozepur, in order to make its contribution to the threats of climate change and the deterioration of the natural environment.

Added here, EcoSikh is an environmental initiative, spreading Guru Nanak’s  message of environment lovel and engaging Sikhs globally on the criticial issue of climate change. It arose as a part of the long term plans for generation change programme initiated in 2009 by the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and the Alliance of Religions and Conservation(ARC) to help the world’s major religious traditions create long term plans to improve their relationships with the environment.

The Workshop was attended by more than 150 farmers of the area.  The aim of the Workshop was to create interest about natural farming among the farmers to benefit the people of Punjab and farmers and there is a deft change in the health of Punjabis.

Keynote speaking of the Workshop was Dr.Rajbir Singh, Chairman, Pingalwara Charitable Trust,l Amritsar.

Dr.Rajbir Singh put wiser the farmers about the nature farming and intelligently replied to their various queries on the spot. In his strong words, he said, Bhagat Puran Singh has shown us the path to save our ‘Mother Land’ and Pingawara Trust making day and night efforts motivating the farmers of Guru Nanak’s message of environmental love.

He said, Farming was already organic and now it has become inorganic.  Now we have to work seriously to reverse to organic farming.

Giving a reference of three things – Air, Water and Land from the Holy Book of Sikhs, Dr.Rajbir Singh said, “There is need for ‘Zero Budget Farming’ so that farmers should not got to the market and produce everything in their farms without using chemicals”.

Ravneet Singh, Project Manager, EcoSikh Sout Asia Project said, The path of Natural Langar shown by Sri Harmandar Sahib, Amritsar are being adopted many gurdawars and farmers should also come forward to adopt the Natural Farming techniques. The Natural Farming will be a boon and  more useful in the areas of Punjab where the main reasons of chronic diseases like Cancer are due to polluted water and maximum use of insecticides and pesticidies.

Datawind Corporation team also shared the various internet, web browsing application and cheap plans with special feature of farmer helping applications to associate the farmers with the whole of the world with a special messageof ‘Eat Organic, Buy Organic, Grow Organic and Be Organic’.

Parvinder Singh, Divisional Head of Living Successful Organisation said, I feel the responsibility for the healthy future of Punjab and I express my pleasures over a good response from the farmers for Natural Farming.  A library named ‘Dharti Suhavi’ has also been set up and in future, we will provide the marketing facilities of produce from natural farming.

Apart from Natural Farming and lectures, an exhibition of products from natural farming by Dheera Patra Society was put up and literature relating of natural farming was distributed among the farmers.

Five members of Paddlers Club Ferozepur paid a special visit to the Workshop while padding from Ferozepurn to Lalchian and back to spread the message of environment love.

The members said, as the young farmers of Punjab are the hope of Punjab’s ecology.  Punjab is facing severe environmental challenges including reduction of ground water table, land pollution due to dangerous level of pesticide and chemical usage in farming and air pollution. Now it is the turn of young farmers to take the responsibility to create a better future of Punjab.
