During visitation, son tries to smuggle in 4 SIM Cards to father in Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, January 29, 2024: During visitation, son tried to smuggle in four SIM cards to his father in Ferozepur jail.
As per the information, Parmpreet Singh when handed over the clothes of his father Sukhwinder Singh, under trial prisoner, during visitation and on its minute checking, 4 SIM cards were seized. It speaks of the availability of mobiles inside the jail or perhaps has been smuggled in during his earlier visits.
While there was a recovery of around 500 mobiles during the last year in Ferozepur apart from the various prohibited items, 64 mobiles and various banned items have been recovered during January 2024. The connivance of jail staff, with regular recovery of banned items from the prisoners, cannot be ruled out and more stringent measures have to be adopted to plug the smuggling in of banned items.
The security incident at the entry points and outside in the open space needs to be tightened, to curb this menace and to maintain the status of punishment to criminals for keeping them away from the outer world. Now, merely registration of a case on recovery of prohibited items against the unknown persons would not suffice. The visitation of such prisoners has to be stopped upon recovery of any banned items during the meeting. Meanwhile, a case under the Prisons Act has been registered on the complaint of Jasvir Singh, Assistant Superintendent and further investigations are on with the IO.
