Drive against illegal mining yields results in Ferozepur, 32 booked in 27 FIRs during 2023

Ferozepur, March 7, 2022: Continuing its drive against illegal mining, the Ferozepur police with its concerted efforts have registered 27 FIRs have been registered till date during the current year with arrest of 32 accused, including three on February 4.
Despite a ban on illegal sand mining, the activities continued unabated in different parts of the district and the sand was being excavated illegally in several parts. The police had registered several cases during this year as well as during the current year against violators but hardly appeared to be a deterrent.
Giving the details, SP(D) Randhir Kumar said, a team of Rajesh Kumar, Gurdev Singh, ASI and Baljinder Singh SI, CIA staff, headed by gazetted officers (GO) recently arrested three accused in three different cases, along with recovery of one tipper and two tractors and one JCB, loaded with sand, and booked under Mining and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 at Makhu, Ferozepur and Mallanwala.
While three accused – Beat Singh of village Sabharawan near Mallanwala, Paramjit Singh and Malkit Singh of Aku Wala Hittar (Ferozepur Sadar) have been arrested, the hunt is on for other five accused – Ravinder Singh of Zira, Gurwant Singh alias Gagan of Awan Road Zira, Manga of Kutabpura and Sukhwant Singh of Rahi Sabhrawan.
SP (D) said that during the year 2022, 179 cases of illegal mining were registered and 185 accused were arrested. Similarly, during the current year till date, 27 FIRs have been registered and 32 accused have been arrested in cases related to illegal mining in the district.
He said, everything possible is being done to stop illegal mining completely through the special teams under the supervision of senior officers which will take action against the bad elements in the entire district.
SP (D) said, first of all we identified the sites where this type of excavation was going on. Then we formed teams which raided these places. 27 FIRs in two months are the result of the hard work put into the police teams. However, this drive will continue unabated.
