Cop injured in firing as undertrial escapes police custody

 

Ferozepur, August 18, 2018:  The three assailants on two motorcycles freed the undertrial brought from Nabha Jail for an appearance in the court, from police custody by indiscriminate firing on the police team.

 

As per the information, the three police officials had brought the prisoner – from Nabha Jail to Ferozepur for appearing in the court – identified as Harbhajan Singh, son of Lal Singh alias Bittu, 23 years old, belonging to Nihala Kilcha village, with criminal and smuggling background booked NDPS Act, since three years, with seven years imprisonment.

 

Manminder Singh, SPH informed that when the police party was on way back at about 5 pm, they had stopped for taking some refreshment near Ghall Khurd and three persons on two motorcycles came and got released the prisoner on firing, from the custody of the police, right under their nose.   In the firing incident, two bullets hit on the thigh of Hav Lachhman Singh.

 

The injured police official has been admitted to the civil hospital. In the meantime, the district police were put on alert and police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.  

 

The incident had once again raised a serious question mark over the security as the police are said to be not as vigilant as they should have been while bringing the undertrial for the hearing in the court.

 

It is pertinent to mention here that 22.5 kg heroin was recovered from Harbhana Singh and his accomplice Rishi alias Babbar, a resident of Zirakpur and Sourabh, resident of Phillaur. Later, he was sent to Nabha Central Jail and today he had come to Ferozepur for hearing.  Besides, he was booked in several other cases and related to NDPS and robbery.
