CANTONMENT BOARD STARTS DOG STERILIZATION DRIVE IN FEROZEPUR CANTONMENT AREA TO CURB THE TERROR OF STRAY DOGS

STRAY DOGSFerozepur, March, 5: To curb the terror of stray dogs in the cantonment area, the Ferozepur Cantonment Board has initiated a “sterilization drive”. As per the information available, more than 100 dogs have been sterilized within few days. officials from the cantonment board are leaving no stone unturned to make this sterilization drive a huge success. Interestingly, the stray dogs which were found often roaming around in the streets seems to have disappeared.

While giving details, Abhishek Kumar, sanitary inspector, Ferozepur cantonment board said that cantonment board employees are capturing these stray dogs and bringing them to cantonment board hospital where they are being sterilized by a team of specialist doctors led by Dr. Jugal from New Delhi. “After two days of care the cantonment board employee drop them back in the area from where they were caught”, he added.

When contacted Ompal Singh, CEO Cantonment Board said that due to rising number of stray dogs the cantonment board started this drive. “The drive will help in bringing down the number of stray dogs in the near future. We are also leaving a special mark for identification also so that these dogs may not be caught again”, said CEO.

Pankaj Sharma, an advocate, said that the initiative taken by the cantonment board is really appreciable. “But they should do something for the stray cattle also”, added Pankaj Sharma.

It is pertinent to mention here that 13 people were beaten by a stray dog in December, 2015 in the city area while a ten year old kid was mauled by stray dogs in Ferozepur Cantt area. Later the kid, identified as Ajay singh son of Raghubir singh, succumbed to injuries.
