BSF Commandant hands over rare documents of an Indian revolutionary Sukhdev – to DIG for keeping in museum at Hussainiwala
Hussainiwala (Ferozepur), April 25, 2016 : Today, Dr.Y.P.Singh Commandant handed over number of rare documents relating to Sukhdev martyr collected during his research work to R.K.Thapa, DIG BSF, Ferozepur, at the closing of the ‘Retreat Ceremony’ at the Indo-Pak border Hussainiwala.
Added here, Sukhdev Thapar – 15 May 1903 – 23 March 1931) was an Indian revolutionary born in Ludhiana, Punjab, Khatri by caste. He was hanged with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru and their bodies were cremated at Hussainiwala. Sukhdev is best remembered for his involvement in the Lahore Conspiracy Case of 18 December 1928 and its aftermath. He was an accomplice of Bhagat Singh and Shivram Rajguru, whose conspiracy led to the assassination of DSP J.P.Saunders in 1928 in response to the violent deth of a veteran leader Lala Lajpat Rai. After the Central Assembly Hall bombings in New Delhi on 8 April 1929, the conspirators were arrested and convicted of their crime.
Speaking on the occasion, R.K.Thapa, DIG, BSF Ferozepur said, I congratulate Dr.Y.P.Singh, Commandant, BSF Khemkaran, for presenting number of rare documents relating to Sukhdev martyr – an associate of Shaheed Bhagat Singh number of letters – open letter to Mahatama Gandhi, Delhi Assembly Bomb episode phtostat of proceeding book page 119, some extracts relating to Sukhdev a revolutionary, a note published in Urdu – Bhagat Singh in the eyes of Sukhdev – for placing them at the museum at Hussainiwala.
Dr.Y.P.Singh sharing with the media persons said, these are the rare documents collected during his college time for the research work on Sukhdev – a martyr – who sacrificed his life the freedom of India – which were part of my thesis.
He said, these rare documents may not be confined to papers only and the same should be properly displayed in the newly constructed museum at Hussainiwala – which is a place of Maryrs’ Memorial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
Since number of people comes at Hussainiwala to witness the Retreat Ceremony and pay tributes to the martyrs, I have gifted all these documents in mounted shape for display at the museum so that visitors could go through it to know the passion of freedom fighters of those time who brought freedom to India.
In reply to the query, he said, number of documents is collected during the research work and certain letters were also handed over to me by the younger brother of Sukhdev. Some documents have also been kept in the National Museum also. In all these letters addressed to his uncle, anonymous persons speak about the ideology of his revolutionary movement.
In reply to another query, Dr.Y.P.Singh said, Yes, these documents were a part of my research work on Sukhdev which I had chosen, as there is a lot of research work on Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
