Banks remain closed on first day of 2-days’ strike call by UFBU
Ferozepur, March 15, 2021: It was a completely off day for transactions at the bank branches for the customers, in the city, on the first day of 2-days’ strike call by United Forum of Bank Unions against the Centre’s proposal to privatize two public sector banks.
Added here, the Union Budget 2021-22 has proposed privatization of two public sector banks and one general insurance as well as an IPO by insurance major LIC.
Today hundreds of bank employees and officers participated in the two-day nationwide bank strike on March 15 and 16, with placards in their hands, amid shouting slogans, in front of the State Bank of India building in the city.
The Forum consists of nine unions representing 10 lakh bank employees and officers across the country demanding strengthening of public sector banks, by adequate infusion of capital, human resources and strengthened statutory framework to recover the stressed assets.
Speaking to the medial, Prem Sharma, Kashyap, Sukhpal, Gurlal, Balli Badal and others spokesperson of bank employees union said, this two-ay nationwide strike is in protest against the handing over the hard-earned money of the common man and depriving the poor people from the banking services, by handing over the banking sector to the private hands.
