Ferozepur, July 24, 2016:  An attempt to take passion of the Home for the Blind – its second complex maintained by District Council for the Welfare of Handicapped exclusively for the visually impaired persons – by a grandson Anil Kumar alias Tony from Sareen family,  one of the  member of the Trustee of Lala Tulsi Ram Extension Zanana Hospital & Samadh Trust – by getting the main gate opened by dodging the inmates, was foiled by the members of the management with the help of well-wishers and supporters of Home for the Blind.

Anil Kumar alias Tony who is doing a cycle business at Sonepat, claims to be the owner of the land, where the Council have constructed 10 rooms, dining hall, kitchen, pantry after getting a grant from MPLAD funds with the efforts of Parminder Singh Pinky, Congress MLA.

Immediately on getting the information of taking possession of part of the building, the district administration and police authorities were informed and SHO stopped further construction of four-wall.  In the meantime, the local MCs and people of the area, led by Ravi Mehta, BJP leader, gathered there and dismantled the wall erected wall in the morning and removed the lock put on one of the entry.

When contacted the Ashwani Sharma, Secretary, Ashok Gupta, Treasurer, R..C.Goyal Member and Ramesh Sethi  Manager, Home for the Blind, he said, the building was handed over by Tulsi Ram Zanana Hospital Trust vide its resolution passed on August 21, 1956 with a clear clause which reads as “In view of the shortage of the funds to run the Hospital at present , it has decided to hand over the possession of the premises to the Council for the use of the “Home of the Blind” for such period as the Home is run”. Added here, earlier also such attempt was made and the same too was thwarted.

Home for the Blind is working under District Council for the Welfare of Handicapped with Deputy Commissioner as its ex-officio Chairman along with other members from various sections.

The Home is being run totally on volunteer donations from the public and providing free lodging and boarding to the visually impaired persons besides helping in pursuing the training for canning, music and education.  Presently, there are 25 inmates in two complexes – with 15 inmates  at Makhu Gate by arranging a land by Mehar Chand Khanna in 1959 and the other in question in the heart of the city near Nur Shah Wali and 10 inmates.  Presently, five inmates are pursuing their graduation and schooling with the help of the institution.

The institution was started by Dr.Sadhu Chand Vinayak, MBBS in 1956 and since then it is running with the help of local people by donating in cash or in kind from time to time with no help from the government.

Expressing concern over the movement take passion of the Home for the Blind, Kamal Sharma, former BJP President Punjab and National Executive  Committee Member, Parminder Singh Pinki, Congress MLA, Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa, Municipal Counsilors, citizens and shopkeepers of the area said, we will now allow to take possession of the Home for the Blind by any one at any cost.  The building is being used for the welfare of the visually impaired persons, some of them are residing more than five decades back and for the purpose it was given by Tulsi Ram Zanana Hospital Trust.  They also assured to help the insititution for time to time to take care of inmates more comfortably.

However, they demanded from the district and police administration to deal with such persons strictly in future in any such attempt is not repeated.
