Arora Mahasabha Punjab demands reservation for economically backward among upper castes in Punjab on Gujrat pattern
Ferozepur, May 5, 2016: In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Punjab Arora Mahasabha Punjab has demanded reservation for economically backward among upper castes in Punjab on the pattern of Gujrat government.
Added here, the Gujarat government has announced 10 per cent reservation for the economical backward among upper castes, a move apparently aimed at placating the influential Patidars who launched a violent agitation last year seeking quota benefits.
Speaking to this correspondent, Satish Arora, President, Arora Mahasabha Punjab, Ferozepur Unit said, the Arora Mahasabha Punjab in its state meeting held on 2nd May at Kapurthala, passed a resolution on this account, in the presence of state office beares and all district Presidents from 42 cities.
He said, the Gujrat Government, on the public demand, have given reservation for poor section of upper caste (general categories) and on the same pattern it should be implemented in Punjab also.
There are so many families living worst life in poor conditions and below poverty line, having no means for their livelihood. Such class needs the facilities in education and employment for the upliftment of the weaker sections poor from upper caste, he added.
In the memorandum, while demanding reservation, it has also been indicated that this step of the government will become historical and helpful to the alliance Akali-BJP government in the next Assembly elections.
Abhishek Arora, President, Arora Mahasabha Punjab (Youth Wing) said, a memorandum on this account will also submitted on behalf of Arora Mahasabha Punjab, to all the Deputy Commissioners in the state on May 6.
