AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL THE WORLD LEADERS by Saikrit Gulati
Respected Leaders of the Globe,
As thousands of Ukrainians die fighting for their country or try to cross the border in a bid to reach safer countries, you are sitting in air-conditioned rooms. Before the attack, there was a complete military standoff between the two countries and if you would have swung into action at that very time, innumerable people would have been prevented from seeing a complete devastation of their homeland. A stitch in time would have saved nine but it appears as if you people were not bothered about lives. You were only concerned about your power and your approval ratings inside your own country. It is rightly said that politics is an addiction and possibly, you forgot to read Leo Tolstoy’s renowned, ‘War and Peace.’
Even today, you are setting up evacuation measures for your citizens only but what about those Ukrainians who are out of their country but homeless and living in a world where their country, perhaps, would be conquered and would cease to exist. Don’t you have an obligation to give them a home with all the power that you yield in the world? Stop all your alliances and focus on the human lives which are priceless.
You are merely holding discussions in huge halls and imposing sanctions but are you taking even the slightest action for the Ukrainians who have been attacked? A country with less-advanced military equipment than the one attacking it needs to be helped. The Ukrainians are fighting hard for their motherland in spite of the fact that they lag behind in the military. You can help them save their country by providing them with military assistance.
The United Nations on the other hand stands as a mute spectator. This international body’s original purpose was to control and prevent World War III. If this body has not been able to stop a bilateral war even after a month, you cannot expect it to control a World War III, do you? You must do the needful right now because the UN is a group of countries and you can call for it to solve this burning issue.
All the talks between the two nations have been started by them without much international support. It is shameful that most of world leaders are busy imposing sanctions and have not arranged for any diplomatic talks. We can solve each and every crisis diplomatically if there is political will. Alas! You don’t possess this will in this crisis.
Peace is golden, world leaders. If there is peace, there is happiness and happiness is the key to a globe that is fully developed. If we keep fighting with each other, even developed countries will be reduced to rubble and I hope that you don’t desire to see any country being vanquished and devastated. A peaceful world is what we need for a better future and a happy world for us, the generation of tomorrow. You are the leaders and you need to set an example for your country because tomorrow’s decision-makers will be influenced by what you did and not what you say.
If you wish to be on the better side of History, you must make way for peace talks and mediate between the two warring nations. Instead of imposing sanctions and causing the economic downfall of many developing nations after their economies have been devastated by the pandemic, you must solve the burning problem in a desirable way. Today, the world’s eyes are on all of you and it is your choice over how you want to stand in these eyes.
