All India Anganwari Workers threaten massive agitation from January 1
Ferozepur, December 18, 2017: Threatening to massive protests and hunger strike from the first day of New Year – January 1, by All India Anganwari Workers and Helpers Union, if their demands are not met forthwith.
Scores of Anganwari workers and helpers assembled at Saragarhi Gurudawara attended the state level meeting led by District President, Pyar Kaur Santuwala. The meeting was also attended State President, Saroj Chappriwala and State Secretary Sunil.
Addressing the workers, the leaders said, after a long fight with the government, a joint notification was issued that the children would stay with Anganwari centres and teachers would go there for an hour but the instructions on the matter have been violated and children are subject to physical and mental exploitation.
Added here, the statewide protest by anganwadi workers was called off after CM assured them that the government would not shut the centres after pre-primary classes are started in primary schools.
An official spokesperson said that ideally, all anganwadis should operate from primary schools and children enrolled in these centres should also be pre-primary class students.
“Unfortunately, in the current framework, anganwadi workers and teachers are unable to focus on their core functions, thus affecting the quality and standards of both.
They further said, the matter has been brought to the notice of officers at the district level and Programme Officers but there is no implementation so far and Anganwari workers are facing a lot of problems.
A memorandum to this effect is also being submitted to the Deputy Commissioners in the state and in case the issue is not resolved, a massive protest would be started from January 1.
