Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections-2024: 1730 liquor boxes seized in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 4, 2024: The Ferozepur police in association with Excise officials recovered a huge quantity of liquor – 1300 ltrs (200 boxes) from the local hotel, on a tip-off received and booked one person. Earlier also two days back, two canters with 1530 boxes of liquor were seized.
The police have put up ‘nakas’ in the city as per directions of SSP Saumya Mishra under the tutelage of Randhir Kumar, SP(I), Sukhwinder Singh DSP City. Though sufficient time is available in the Lok Sabha elections, the quantum of liquor seizure comes at a time when the country is preparing for the Lok Sabha elections and the Mode Code of Conduct is in place, which is an indicator of making desperate attempts to lure voters by the political parties or sale by the hoteliers illegally.
As per the crime report released, late night raid was conducted on Wednesday, based on inputs to the police SHO Harinder Singh that liquor in huge quantities had been stored in a store on the backside of the cloth shop, by the owner of the International Hotel and selling to the customers illegally. During the raid, 720 bottles of beer (60 packs) and 1680 bottles of liquor (140 packs), making a total recovery of 2400 bottles, were seized. However, the correct figure later on released was 140 packs of liquor having 1260 ltr and 60 packs of beer having 540 ltr having a total cost of Rs.5.50 lac for 1700 litres.
A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act was registered at PS City with the arrest of Jeevan, owner of the hotel and further investigations are underway.
