RPF booked 360 farmers for blocking two rail tracks in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 19, 2018: On Thursday, 9 trains were affected due to farmers agitation on two rail tracks in Ferozepur. The railways have booked 360 farmers – 10 identified and 350 unidentified, for blocking the rail traffic, by hundreds of farmers, on a call for ‘rail roko andolan’ from Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Punjab, in Ferozepur for putting a pressure on the state government over various demands.
The major demand of the farmers was to withdraw the cases against the farmers for stubble burning, allow compensation to farmers for managing the stubble – the crop residue instead of burning which pollutes the environment.
In a harrowing time for passengers, the train services were paralysed and in all 9 trains were affected on different routes – Ferozepur-Fazilka and Ferozepur-Delhi routes due to protest by the farmers at Butewala and Jhoke Tehal Singh on tracks. The railway has suffered a heavy loss on this account and actual loss is being ascertained.
ASI Gulshan Rai informed that ten farmers have been named in the case registered at RPF local post beside 350 unidentified persons. The identification of unidentified persons is being made on the basis of the video made at the time of agitation by the farmers on the rail tracks.
Further investigation is still on and no arrest has so far been made.
