National level ‘Poetry Symposium’ organized in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, February 24, 2018: The Post Graduate Punjabi Department of RSD College Ferozepur organised a two days’ National Level Poetry Symposium under the aegis of Punjabi Academy, New Delhi.
The Inaugural session started with the formal welcome address by the college principal Dr. Dinesh Sharma.
Dr. Gurbhej Singh Goraya hailed the efforts of the college in organising such a mega event while Dr. Jaswinder SIngh presented the keynote address in which he opined that Poetry is an attempt to locate the real identity of one's self. A poet discovers his undiscovered layers of consciousness through poetry only.
Dr. Sukhdev Singh raised concerns over the serious implications of the contemporary social and political milieu on Literature in his presidential remarks.
In the first session of poetry, an attempt was made to gauge the impact of Dr. Pal Kaur's and Sukhvinder Amrit's poetry in the tradition of Female Punjabi poetry.
Dr. Atam Randhawa and Dr. Jagwinder Jodha participated in a penal discussion in this session. Dr. Yadwinder Singh of Delhi University touched various aspects of poetry while convening the session. Dr. Sarabjeet Singh presented the presidential address in this session.
In the next session on the Genre of Ghazal Writing, Dr. Surjit and noted Story Writer Balwinder Grewal presented a dialogue about the creative process of Ghazal writing of noted ghazal poets Gurtej Koharwala and Vijay Vivek. Dr. Jaswinder Saini chaired the session whereas Dr. Kulvir convened the session.
In the second day of Poetry symposium, the first session was chaired by Dr. Surjit Singh in which Dr. Neetu Arora, Dr. Yadvinder Singh and Dr. Tanveer discussed the poetry of noted poets Devneet and Dr. Ambrish and Gurpreet. Dr. Surjit praised the minute and at the same time the immense beauty of Punjabi language in the tradition of Punjabi Poetry. He hailed the importance and interplay of Love in Poetry. Jagvinder Jodha convened this session.
The concluding session was dedicated to appreciating the poetry of Jaswant Zafar and Madan Veera, which was aptly done by Prof. Avtaar Singh and Harvinder Bhandaal. Dr. Manmohan in his talk underlined the importance of preserving Philosophy and Criticism in Punjabi Poetry.
Prof Kuldeep Singh and Dr. Manjeet Kaur Azaad impressed and regaled the audience with their stage compeering skills and Prof. Gurtej Koharwala, Head Department of Punjabi while concluding the function presented the vote of thanks and hailed the efforts of the entire organising committee.
