Golden Arrow Division of Army celebrates 53rd Raising Day
Ferozepur, July 1, 2016: The Golden Arrow Division of the Army celebrated 53rd Raising Day on July 1, 2016. The division was first raised in 1914, where it fought number of battles in Egypt and Mesopotamia during World War I. It participated in Burma campaign in World War II. The Division was awarded four Victoria Cross for its valour in both the World Wars
. The Golden Arrow Division was re-raised after independence on July 1, 1963 by Maj Gen H K Sibal, MVC.
In line with traditions of the Army, Maj Gen Vijay Pingale, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division, officers and troops paid homage and tribute to the martyrs by laying wreath at Barki War Memorial.
The event was followed by a Special Sainik Sammelan, where the GOC addressed all ranks of the Golden Arrow Division. He appreciated the contribution and hard work put in by all ranks to make the Division as one of the best in the Indian Army. A felicitation ceremony ws conducted, where the Units which were part of Golden Arrow Division during 1965 war were honoured by presenting a commemorative memento. Championship banners were awarded to the Battalions for their outstanding performance in the professional and Sports Competitions.
The celebrations continued with Barakhana for troops, besides a social gathering at Offices Mess, where the veterans, civil official and dignitaries were invited.
