State BJP President visits flood prone areas near Dhussi Bandh
Ferozepur, August 12, 2015: Today,Kamal Sharma, State BJP President along with Deputy Commissioner Er. DPS Kharbanda paid a whirlwind tour to the flood prone villages Muthianwala, Kamalwala, Bandala situated near the Dhussi Bandh, Following the alert of floods in the region,
Presnetly, 68,000 cusec water is coming downstream from Harike headworks to Hussainiwala and 648.65 ft. water level is maintained at Hussainiwala headworks while 55,000 cusec water is going downstream. It might have some adverse effect on villages situated nearby Sutlej in Jalalabad, Fazilka and Pakistan, he further added.
Sources said, a demand for Rs.1.5 crore was for the strengthening of Dhussi bandh (Advance Protection Bandh) and the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has released a grant of Rs. 70 lakh immediately. We have started construction work near village Chakk Khanna (Pillar No. 0 to 2000) which will save the residents of villages Chakk Khanna, Khanna, Mahlewala, Wada, Akabarwala, Laalu and at least 20 more villages.
DC Kharbanda said that the district administration is keeping a close eye on the situation. He said that the river can bear the pressure of one lakh cusec water in this region.
Punjab BJP President, Kamal Sharma on this occasion said that there is nothing to panic. Even if the situation takes an ugly turn, we are ready to face the challenge”, he added.
Earlier, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) had released 55,000 cusec water yesterday to maintain the water level at 1667 Ft. by 15 August. While 32,500 cusec water was released into Sutlej, the remaining was released in the canals.
