Ferozepur, March 22, 2022:  On the second consecutive day, 2 mobiles, 44 sachets of tobacco, one battery, 3 data cables, and one charger in the three packets thrown inside the jail by an unidentified person, were found during the search operation carried out by Sukhjinder Singh, Assistant Superintendent.  The recovery of mobiles and other banned items from inside the now from the packets thrown from inside the jail has raised questions over the arrangements of jail authority.

 

A case under Sections 42, 52-A has been registered under the Prisons Act and further investigations are on with Roop Singh, IO.

 

Earlier, on March 21 also three mobiles and banned intoxicant substances – 51 tobacco sachets, two packets of cigarettes, and 6 packets of bidis – from five packets wrapped with plastic tape, thrown from outside, by an unidentified person.

 

The open area and high rising buildings close to the boundary wall, behind Ferozepur Central Jail, has become the major cause of concern for jail officials, from throwing packets containing mobiles, chargers, and other banned items from outside the jail premises. Moreover, in recovery cases, the police cannot get the custody of the accused for questioning and thus thwarting attempts to unravel the supply chain of the mobile phones in the jail, said a police official.

 

According to jail officials, surprise checking is often conducted and as result, we manage to recover the banned items and their misuse.
