Ferozepur, March 11, 2022:  During the search operation carried out in BC Barrack, one mobile was recovered from Mangu inmate with SIM card and another mobile was recovered, on getting a tip-off from the possession of Bhupinder Singh inmate with batter and SIM card along with 5 gm white coloured intoxicant powder.

The recovery of mobiles and other banned items has put a question mark on the security arrangements in and outside the jail. Moreover, in recovery cases, the police cannot get the custody of the accused for questioning and thus thwarting attempts to unravel the supply chain of the mobile phones in the jail, said a police official.

There should be some amendment to the law to make this offense non-bailable,” the Station House Officer added.

A case under Sections 52-A and 42 has been registered against two inmates, already in the custody of jail – Mangu and Bhupinder Singh – and facing trial in their cases, on the complaint of Beant Singh and further investigations are on with Sharma Singh, IO.
