12 Akali workers booked before Panchayat elections, denied NOCs, Akali leaders lodge protest
Ferozepur, September 6, 2018: The Akali leaders and workers have alleged that Congress is hand in gloves with the government and restraining them from filing nomination papers for the coming Panchayat and Zila Parishad elections by not issuing the No Objection Certificate by the concerned BDPOs.
While the Returning Officer, Zira block of Ferozepur district for Panchayat and Zila Parishad elections has claimed of filing of papers by 19 candidates, there had also been a report of violence for filing the nomination papers. About a dozen Akali workers had been booked for beating Congress workers in village Mansoor Deva, under Sections 452, 33, 324, 148, 149.
Kulbir Singh Zira Congress MLA has accused the previous SAD-BJP government of ruling for full ten years and doing nothing except looting and beating the innocent persons.
There was also a reporting of stopping the Akali Dal workers were stopped from filing nomination papers outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office where they held a protest and shouted slogan against the Congress government with special reference to Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Cabinet Minister.
Speaking on the Noni Mann, a SAD leader from Guruharsahai alleged that Akali workers had not been given the NOC – No Objection Certificates by the concerned BDPOs and Secretary for the last three days.
It is a murder of democracy. We will protest in a democratic way and made a complaint to the Election Commission and move to the court also. In case it looks that Congress had done a lot during their tenure, they should allow the Akali leaders also to file the nomination papers to contest for the elections, he added.
Added here, during the last Panchayat elections when SAD-BJP government was in power, the Congress workers were not allowed to file their nominations papers and NOC were not issued to them and now they have put in the same practice has been adopted by the Congress government by not issuing the NOCs to the Akali leaders aspirant for the elections.
As per the official version, 14 candidates have filed Zila Parishad and 139 candidates for Panchayat Samiti elections – 11 from Block Ferozepur, 20 from Zira, 23 from Makhu, 15 from Guruharsahai, 13 from Mamdot and 57 from Ghall Khurd.
Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner-cum-DEO said, the candidates can file their papers for elections by September 7, 2018, while the same will be scrutinized on September 10 and withdrawal of nomination, could be done on September 11. On the same day, the elections symbols will be allotted. The elections will be held as scheduled for September 19 and counting will be on September 22.
