War on drugs: In one year, 1121 held in 997 NDPS cases with huge cache in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, March 13, 2023: In what appears to be the result of a sustained campaign against drugs, the Ferozepur police has done a commendable job by registering 997 FIRs in one year and held as many as, 1121 big and small peddlers and smugglers under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with a huge cache of synthetic drugs in Ferozepur district – infamous for smuggling being a border district close to international border touching Pakistan.
Divulging with the details, young and dynamic police officer Randhir Kumar, SP(D) said, the Ferozepur police has shown strictness especially on smuggling during the last one year – 10 March, 2022 to 10 March 2023, by cracking the smugglers network with registration of 907 cases against 1121 accused, under NDPS Act with huge recovery of 56.532 kg heroin, 2012.040 kg poppy husk, 30.838 kg opium, 3 gm smack, 4.450 kg ganja, 2,01,567 habit forming drugs, 6.395 gm intoxicant powder, Rs.45,23,236 as drug money besides recovery of weapons – 7 pistols, 5 magazines and 52 cartridges.
SP(D) said, the smugglers are active in Ferozepur border town being close to the international border but the fight against the smuggling would continue to make a drug-free district and record recovery during the last one year is a big achievement. We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and other corrupt practices.
He further said, a criminal wrong is considered to be graver than a civil wrong as it is considered as an act against the whole society. To curb the crimes, we are also creating awareness among the border villagers by forming the Anti-drugs Committees.
