Virtual Parent-Teacher-Meet takes into fold parents to books online education
Ferozepur, May 27, 2020: Amandeep Kaur, a social science mistress, is posted at Government Senior Secondary School, Khushal Singh Wala in Ferozepur district. She had to go to Khanna where her parents live during the beginning of the lockdown. But despite being miles away from her school, she has not let the studies of her students down thanks to various modes of social media. Her students are now fully equipped with how to connect with her via phone and they take regular assignments from her. Recently, she roped in the parents of her students in an online video conference in a virtual PTM (parent-teacher meet).
Not only Amandeep but many other government school teachers met the parents of their students in this distant PTM and recorded their responses in a Google online sheet.
The Department of School Education, as per the instruction by the Education Secretary Krishan Kumar, had asked its teachers to hold a virtual meeting with the parents to meet the desired results of online education on May 23, 24, and 25. Notably, the teachers have been taking online classes since the clamping of lockdown on March 22.
District Mentor (English) Gurwinder Singh, while elaborating the concept of holding a virtual PTM informed us that it was important for us to reach out to the parents and get their feedback about the ongoing online education. Our teachers also gave them suggestions about how their kids can take maximum benefit of this novel but innovative way of teaching. We approached almost all the parents of the district during these three days.
Chan Singh, a parent, and resident of Ruknewala village about 25 km from the city said, “I talked to two teachers of my daughters while working in the field. I am extremely happy that my daughters are studying hard even when the schools are closed. The teachers deserve applause for their efforts. My daughters also got books and midday meals ration from the school a couple of days ago.
Deputy District Education Officer, Ferozepur Komal Arora, in an inspiring tone, said that the present lockdown failed to dent the spirit of the teachers, who by the dint of their laborious efforts proved that not only have our schools turned smart, but teaching-learning process has also taken a smart shift. This PTM has also taken into the fold the parents and society, which will further boost online education.
