Villagers claim conspiracy behind arrest of youths for manhandling SGPC Member

Ferozepur, January 22, 2016’: The relatives of youths booked in manhandling of SGPC Member Darshan Singh Sherkhan on October 16,2015 – following the reporting of incident of sacrilege ofSri Guru Granth Sahib – claimed a conspiracy behind their arrest.
This was stated by the residents and relatives in a press conference held in the Press Club, Ferozpur.
The police had arrested one youth from the village for sacrilege incident along with other youth belonging to Naju Shah Mishri, Bazidpur, Malwal Qadim, Shahdin Wala under sections 307, 382, 436, 427, 341, 323, 506, 148, 149.
The villagers including Satnam Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Gurmit Singh, Gurnam Singh, Amandeep Singh and others claimed that the person who attacked SGPC member Darshan Singh Sherkhan were outsiders and did not belong to their villages.
Baba Satnam Singh, an older man of the village said, all these youths who have been booked by the police are innocent and SGPC member is trying to settle his political score. He further said that Darshan Singh has targeted those who owe their commitment to some other political party.
Another villager Gurcharan Singh claimed that both his sons Baljit Singh and Gurmit Singh were not even present on the spot. “My son Baljit Singh was selected in MES. He along with his brother Gurmit were at some other place when this incident took place”, claimed Gurcharan Singh.
Cancellation of FIR registered against these youths was demanded by all the villagers and for their release at the earliest. They however, threatened to intensify in case their demands were not met.
