Unresponsive Chief Minister, say Union leaders – Contract Employees Action Committee announces to screen ‘A Moving Exhibition’ of contractual employees

Chandigarh October 25, 2017: As long as the Congress government comes into existence in Punjab, the Chief Minister had not enough time to conduct a single meeting with contract employees despite assurance from the government official a number of times for the same.

On the contrary, the contract employees are in a rage and Contract Employees Joint Action Committee Punjab has announced its next step toward agitation. Union announces “A moving exhibition” showing sorrows and miserable conditions of contract employees and youth in the local markets of Sri Amritsar Sahib, Ludhiana and Patiala on dates 5th November, 16th November and 25th November respectively where Municipal Elections are to be held.

While addressing to press, the union members – Sajjan Singh, Imran Bhatti, Ashish Julaha, Varinder Pal Singh, Parveen Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Amritpal Singh, Satpal Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Gurpreet Singh and Jot Ram – have alleged that Congress Party had made so many promises in its Election Manifesto to regularize the contract employees and ensuring employment to youth but after completion the seven months, the Congress Government neither completed any promise nor conducted any meeting with contractual employees.

Even Chief Minister and his entire cabinet are ignoring the relevant demands of employees, they added.

While showing “A moving Exhibition” as said above, it would show that how the government is on a track of planned exploitation of youth from their birth to young age. It will also be shown to people of Punjab that how their children get studies, looks for the job and under which circumstances he gets the job, what sort of future and family status he entitles to the earlier made promises of Congress party in Assembly Elections, they further added.

 Union leaders also alleged that, nowadays, Congress government creating circumstances of committing suicide likewise farmers have done in some months ago. The government has not provided anything except minor and cheap salaries to staff working for more than 12 years.

An Act was passed last year in the Assembly of Punjab to regularize the Contractual and Outsourced Employees in Punjab, but, the government is in the mood to alter it and it is completely against the morale of the employees. Even Government is also off the track to get back the Suvidha Employees who were generating funds to meet their salaries and office expenses after giving revenue to the government. On the contrary, nowadays, Sewa Kendra in Punjab are just a burden on government revenue since they aren’t providing effective services in Punjab.

The union leaders said, the Chief Secretary, Karan Avtar Singh also promised twice to conduct a meeting with Captain Amarinder Singh and, last month in Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh, before Gurdaspur Lok Sabha By-poll.

Expressing concern over the attitude of the government, they said, the Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh also promised to arrange a meeting with CM but all in vain. The Punjab Government at its high note of ignorance for meeting with contractual employees. Resulting in this, contract employees have no other option but agitation. In this regard, union announces “A moving exhibition” showing sorrows and miserable conditions of contract employees and youth in the local markets of Sri Amritsar Sahib, Ludhiana and Patiala on dates 5th November, 16th November and 25th November respectively where Municipal Elections are to be held and also let the people know how government makes promises and ignores thereafter. Even if, the government is not ready for the meeting with contract Employees, there would be “A Hunger Strike” in the month of December before the Assembly session.
