Unknown person throws packet on jail’s roof, contains banned items
Ferozepur, December 20, 2023: The reaching inside the jail of banned items, especially the mobiles Ferozepur Jail has not stopped and today, with the recovery of one mobile and other banned items from the packet thrown on the roof of the jail, itself speaks of lax of security arrangements inside and outside the jail premises.
The high-rise building touching one side of the boundary wall of the jail and one side open space and weak security arrangements at the entry points are the reasons behind the release of banned items inside the jail. So far during the year 2023, around 478 mobiles besides various other banned items like data cables, and pen drives – the most informative electronic gadgets, capsules, bidis, and cigarettes, have been recovered from the prisoners or lying unclaimed in the barracks or dumped outside the barracks or kept hidden somewhere. No doubt, the alert jail staff recovers such banned items working on the inputs but further investigation by taking the inmates on remand is not possible from a security point of view and the matter ends with the registration of cases. Some stringent measures need to be taken to curb this menace.
In the recent two cases registered, Section 52-A of Prisons Act, at Ferozepur City police station on the complaints of Nirmaljint Singh, and Sukhjinder Singh, Assistant Superintendents, against the unknown persons, the recovery of banned items included in the packet thrown on the roof jail are 9 sachets of ‘zarda’, one cigarette box, one ‘bidi’ bundle, one data cable and 15 capsules Prega-300 and one mobile lying unclaimed during the search of barrack number 5. Further investigations are on with Raman Kumar IO appointed in this case.
