Under-trial prisoner out on leave exposes inside jail story, Jail Supdt denies charges as baseless

Ferozepur, February 9, 2023: Today, under-trial prisoner Anokh Singh out on three months leave exposed inside jail story levelling charges of mistreatment with Sikh prisoners in the jail and availability of drugs and mobiles on payment.
Anokh Singh is facing trial while in jail in the NDPS case and now he is on leave on medical grounds for a period of three months.
Addressing the media persons at the Press Club, Anokh Singh who was accompanied by Pramjit Kaur whose brother Kullbir Singh is also in the jail in the drug case, accused the jail authorities for mistreatment and not providing the raw material for use in the gurdwara inside the jail. He also levelled the charge of not deputing the Granthi in the gurdwara as per the fixed time adding that whosoever raises voice is harassed. He also quoted the reference of one inmate badly beaten whose video was also shown and gone viral. He further said, the mobiles and drugs are easily available inside the jail on payment in connivance with the jail officials. He said, we will also bring this to the notice of SGPC management.
Paramjit Kaur, sister of another jail inmate also showed the handwritten letter to Jathedar Akal Tahkh Sahib, Chief Minister, Punjab and Punjab and Haryana High Court by his brother from inside the jail.
Jail Superintendent, Gurnam Lal, denied all the charges as baseless levelled by Anokh Singh who is involved in five cases and once opium was also recovered from his turban. In fact, some inmates are trying to spoil the atmosphere of the jail but the jail administration will not allow this to happen within the ambit of the law. He is just levelling the charges because of our strictness to maintain the decorum in the jail with no liberty to the prisoners and we are working to make the jail drug and mobile free.
