Under PMGKAY, more than one lakh beneficiaries get free wheat and pulses
Ferozepur, May 26, 2020: With free of cost distribution of wheat and pulses to about seven thousand families in a single day on Tuesday, food and civil supplies department has covered more than One Lakh families under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY). Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had directed the department to initiate a mammoth drive to ensure the supply of free of cost wheat and pulses to the needy and weaker section of the society in the wake of Corona Virus pandemic.
Divulging the details, the District Food and Supply Controller Pinder Singh said that on the directions of the Chief Minister and Food and Civil Supplies Minister, the department today distributed wheat and pulses to about seven thousand eligible beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in various localities of Ferozepur, which took the count of total benefited families to 1,01,000 in the district. Mr. Pinder Singh said that the government has decided to give 5 kilogram of wheat per beneficiary per month for three months and one kilogram pulses per family per month for three months.
Likewise, the District Food and Civil Supplies Controller said that free distribution of Wheat @ 15 Kg per member of family and Daal @ 3kg only for full family (irrespective of a number of family members) was being ensured through depot holders of food department to all smart cardholders. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed to ensuring that no person, especially any poor family, suffers on account of non-availability of food grains due to lockdown adding Singh said that no stone would be left unturned to achieve this goal.
