Two jail inmates booked for trying to bribe Jail Superintendent
Ferozepur, April 25, 2020: The Ferozepur police have booked two prisoners under trial on the complaint of Harbhajan Lal, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail on the recovery of a banned item like mobile phones and cheating with the jail administration and trying to bribe the jail officials.
Central Jail Ferozepur has been in headlines during the past month with the recovery of mobiles from the jail inmates which has put a question mark on the security arrangements of the jail. The purpose of the use of mobiles from inside the jail, on the various numbers, is another threat that too needs to be probed for further follow-up actions.
Divulging with the details, Asstt. Supdt. said, on receipt of a tip-off, a mobile of Samsung brand with battery and SIM card was recovered from the accused prisoner under trial Davinder Kumar alias Kala. When a preliminary inquiry was being conducted, another prisoner under trial Gopal Chand asked Asstt. Supdt. Sukhwant Singh not to take away the mobile and we will arrange Rs.15,000 for him or even by deleting the contact numbers from the memory of the phone.
A case under Section 52-A of Prisons Act, 420 IPC, Section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the police station on the complaint of Harbhajan Lal Asstt. Supdt besides appointment of Inquiry Officer – IO – Manoj Kumar in this case for further in-depth investigation with special focus on the source of smuggling in of mobile, purpose of its use from the contract numbers.
