Two drug traffickers held with 1,000 kg poppy husk in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 7, 2022: Taking drug trafficking, a menace to the entire society, the Ferozepur police under its extensive campaign against the drugs in the district, have arrested two drug traffickers with 1,000 kg poppy husk and booked them under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
Drug trafficking is a major source of revenue for organized crime groups, many of whom are involved in other forms of serious crime such as firearms, modern slavery and immigration crime. Action against drug trafficking, therefore, has a much wider disruptive impact on organized criminal activity.
Divulging with details, Charanjit Singh SSP Ferozepur holding a press meet said, the teams headed by Gurbinder Singh, SP(I), Satwinder Singh, DSP City were formed to supervise the campaign against the drug menace in the district.
Working swiftly on the tip-off, Sadar Police Station team headed by Gurmit Singh SHO got the success with the arrest of two drug traffickers during the routing patrolling near Kile Wala Chowk, identified as Nishan Singh of Malout and Kuldip Singh of Muktsar, who are known for doing the sale of the drug by transporting from other states, were today intercepted and seized a truck No.HR-65-4300, hiding 50 bags of 20 kg each (total 1,000 kg) of poppy husk, under the tarpaulins and board boxes.
He said, during the preliminary investigation, the accused admitted that they had brought the poppy husk from Rajasthan to earn on its further sale. The accused will be produced in the court for getting remand for further interrogation and more clues are likely to come to the surface.
