Thousands of farmers supported Bharat Bandh call

Ferozepur, January 8, 2020: Thousands of farmers at about dozens of places in eight districts of Punjab today burn the effigy of Punjab government to register their protest over their demands supporting the bandh call given by the various trade unions.  However, the bandh was confined to protests only and the business houses remained open throughout the day.

Showing solidarity with the Bharat bandh call, Satnam Singh Pannu, State President, and Sarwan Singh Pandher, General Secretary said,  our protest is for implementation of Dr.Swaminathan report and giving the minimum Rs.10,000 pension per month under Social Security law, to the farmers-laborers in the state over 60 years age.

They said, in Punjab the governments by introducing the anti-people and environment chemical agriculture model – a license to the corporate houses to loot the farmers and people are spoiling the career of the farmers’ community.  They also raised the various demands including introduction of Dr.Swaminatahn report, guarantee of marketing of 23 crops, stopping the pensions of MPs, MLAs, waiving of loans of farmers, taking action against the bank officials for taking the blank cheques from the farmers, cancellation of 25 years agreement to procure the power supply from private companies at the rate of Rs.9.33 per unit and charging Rs.1 per unit only, Rs.6000 per acre compensation to the farmers for not burning stubble in the fields and cancellation of false cases against the six farmers of Zira.
