State Level Function on National Voters Day organized at Ferozepur
Ferozepur, January 25, 2018 : To mark the 8th National voters day, a state level function was organized at Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences and research ,Ferozepur where the chief guest Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor Punjab Agricultural University advocates the greater participation of youth in political and democratic affairs in the country to strengthen the democracy.
Addressing the audience Dr. Dhillon said that the future of the country largely depends upon the right use of franchise by the voters as each and every vote decides the future of our nation.
He said that the Election Commission of India was setup in 1950 and since 2011 it was decided to observe the National voters day on January 25, a day before the Republic Day.
He said that thrust must be laid on sensitizing the people about the need for exercising their franchise by rising above the parochial considerations of caste, color, creed or sex adding that vote must be cast without any sort of influence.
Dr. Dhillon said that this was a mammoth task and youth must contribute enormously in this national service.
Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Dr. S Karuna Raju said that as per the direction of Election Commission of India an awareness campaign has been launched to prepare the people for ethical voting. He further said the under the SVEEP campaign nearly 20 lakh youth have been registered as voters which enhance the numbers of voters in Punjab to one crore ninety six lakh.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of CEO office, he said that 100% photo electronic ID cards have been issued to voters. He also appealed the youth to register themselves as voters who have attained the age of 18 on January 01, 2018.
Earlier Deputy commissioner Mr. Ramveer has welcomed the Chief guest and other dignitaries.
In the function SDM Bathinda Sakshi Sahni , Amandeep Singh BLO Fridkot , Himat Puri BLO Zira, Aggreed foundation Ferozepor, Chand Prakash Tehsildar were awarded for their remarkable contribution towards the awareness campaign.
