Ferozepur, June 2, 2024:  As the stand-off between the Centre and farmers continues, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced that it would mobilise farmers with a slew of programmes supporting its demands. Both the farmer outfits leading the protest at Delhi borders – SKM(NP) and KMM, have decided to hold meetings on June 4 and 5, to take a decision and form a strategy to intensify the agitation.

During the protest which began on February 13, so far 22 farmers have lost their lives, including two women and one youth of 21 years Shubhkaran Singh who was shot dead at the Khanauri border on February 21.  Besides, 35 farmers sustained serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the joint movement by the two farmers outfits – Samyukt Kisan Morcha (NP) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) jointly have started holding meetings to intensify the agitation against the Centre government.  In a videography message by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dalewal announced that the process of Lok Sabha elections has almost completed and the final results will be announced on June 4. After the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, whosesoever government may be formed, the farmers will move towards Delhi to register their protest on the opening of the border, said Jagjit Singh Dalewal while appealing to the farmers to reach the Morcha in good numbers.

Sarwan Singh Pandher, farmer leader said, the farmers are demanding the guarantee for MSP on all crops, for which they were moving towards Delhi to register their protest but they have been stopped by putting up barricades, making the crop of nails on the roads and deployment of heavy police and paramilitary forces. He alleged that during the protest, the attack on farmers was made with bullets, tear-gas shells, water cannons etc. injuring the various farmers and damaging our tractors despite our peaceful protest. It is ‘Nafrt Di Rajdhani’ going on from Delhi when the debts in crores of corporate houses were waived but the debt of farmers has not been so far.  Rather, we have been threatened to face the music after the elections are over on June 1.

Pandher said, a jatha from Amritsar has moved towards Shambu and till such time all of our demands are accepted, our protests will continue in the coming days.
