Seizure of three mobiles from jail inmates in Ferozepur exposes poor security chinks
Feroezepur, October 6, 2019: The seizure of three mobiles from jail inmates has put the prison authorities in a fix over the poor security arrangements.
During the search operation, the jail staff has mobile phones with batteries and three SIM cards from the possession of prisoners and prisoners on trial
Giving this information, Sharma Singh, IO appointed in this case informed that on the complaint of Assistant Superintendent Central Jail, Ferozepur, a case against the jail inmates identified as Thomas of Variwan, Makhu, Harpreet Singh alias King of Manu Ke in Moga, and Gurmit Singh of Hira Nagar, Ferozepur City, has been registered under Section 52-A of Prisons Act.
He said further investigations are on to ascertain the connivance or involvement of jail staff for smuggling the mobiles in jail campus and its use over the contacts with their background.
This is the not the first incident, every time during the search operation, mobiles and drugs are recovered which put question mark on the security arrangements of the central jail.
It looks that the state jails are highly inadequate in terms of equipment and poorly staffed. In the recent past, there had been recovery of around 100 mobiles during the year.
