Renewable energy technologies provide an excellent opportunity for reducing global warming: President IICHE
Ferozepur, November 2, 2015: Department of Chemical Engineering of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur organized one day workshop on “Application of Chemical Engineering in Alternative Sources of Energy” in association with Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers(IICHE) Student Chapter, Doaba Regional Centre(DRC).
In addition the IICHE Student Chapter was inaugurated by Shri G.V.Sethuraman (President IICHE). IIChE is the largest organization for the Chemical Engineers which promotes the research and development in the field of Chemical Engineering in India. Six eminent scientists and academicians from India delivered expert lectures on the recent research and development in the areas of renewable energy.
The eminent scientists including Dr. A.K.Sarma (Scientist- National Institute of Renewable Energy, Kaputrthala), Dr. S.S.Sooch (Director, School of Energy Studies for Agriculture in PAU,Ludhiana), included Dr. M. K. Jha (Professor, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar), Dr. S. Bajpai (HOD – Chemical department NIT, Jalandhar) and Dr Gaurav Verma ( Panjab University, Chandigarh) explained the role of Chemical Engineering in development of non renewable energy to the students and faculty. There was enthusiastic by the students in the workshop specially during the one hour interactive session. Students posed some queries on the possibilities of low cost, non-conventional sources of energy for future use.
Speaking on the occasion, President IICHE, G.V.Sethuraman said, “Renewable energy technologies provide an excellent opportunity for mitigation of greenhouse gas emission and reducing global warming through substituting conventional energy sources”
