Sarpanches must be drug-free for drug-free villages: Randhawa
Ferozepur, August 2, 2018: “For drug-free villages, the Sarpanches should also be drug-free. Only those representatives be elected as Sarpach, who are free from any kind of drugs, said Punjab’s Jail and Cooperation Minister, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, while addressing the special function as Chief Guest organized by the district administration on ‘Drug-Free Healthy Punjab” at Bhasin Palace.
On this occasion, he was accompanied by Parminder Singh Pinky, Ferozepur Rural MLA, Kulbir Singh, MLA Zira, Sardarni Satkar Kaur Gehri besides Commissioner Ferozepur Division, Sumer Gurjar and Deputy Commissioner Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal were also present.
Before joining the function, the Cabinet Minister made a surprise check at Hans Raj Multi Specialty Hospital and Drug De-addiction Centre of Health Department and ordered for the dope tests of doctors related to hospitals and to investigate the prohibited drugs.
Randhawa said, “For drug-free villages, it is necessary that the Sarpanch himself must be drug-free. During the elections, only those representatives are elected as Sarpanch who are drug-free.
In his address, Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that there is a great need of people's support for the eradication of drugs. Drugs can be eradicated only if people come forward as a mass movement and try to eliminate drugs. He said that whenever a leader, a government employee, or it comes to notice that someone is selling the drugs then the people should stand against it as a public movement to get punished such elements.
He said that the Punjab government was making special efforts to improve the teachers' deficiency in the border areas so that the standard of education for the people of this region could be improved. He further added that special facilities have been provided to the students in primary schools so that all types of children could be educated in these schools. The people of the city should also give a preference for putting up their children, in government schools so that all could be given equal education.
Talking about the illegal mining, he said, no illegal mining is allowed in the state and if anyone does so, he will be punished according to the law and the government had already issued instructions to the police already been advised not to work under any pressure.
He also motivated the officials to work wholeheartedly and appealed to plant maximum saplings under Mission Tandrust Punjab, take action against the adulterants and identify the needy people under the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbatt Vikas Yojana.
Meanwhile, MLA Ferozepur Urban Parminder Singh Pinki, MLA Zira Kulbir Singh, MLA Firozpur Rural Madam Satker Kaur Gehri also apprised the Minister about the problems of the constituencies. The three MLAs also expressed their views to stop drug abuse, make appointments in Cooperation and Jail departments and arrange for treatment for maximum youth in drug de-addiction centres besides how to prevent drug smuggling in the border area. The Cabinet Minister also planted trees with the similar message to the city residents.
On this occasion, Congress leader S. Jasmail Singh Laddi Gehri, former MLA S.Gurnaib Brar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) S.Gurmeet Singh Multani, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) S.Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, SDM.Firozpur S.Narinder Singh, SDM Zira, Sh.Amit Gupta, Assistant Commissioner (G) S.Ranjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Sh. Kuldeep Bawa, DDPO S.Harjinder Singh, Rup Lal along with a large number of Congress leaders were present.
