Ferozepur Hideout place of Martyr Bhagat Singh – HC issues notice on contempt plea
Ferozepur, December 9, 2015: H.C.Arora, Advocate is pursuing through public interest litigation (PIL) for officially for declaring revolutionaries hideout a protect monument whereas the kins of Bhagat Singh are perusing with the government to publish an official list of martyrs of the independence movement besides putting other related demands to recognize the sacrifice of those who dedicated their lives for the freedom of India.
On a contempt petition alleging non-compliance of order for declaring revolutionaries’ hideout a protected monument by H.C.Arora dedicated Advocate, the Punjab and Haryana High had issued notice to the Punjab Secetary, Deprtment of Culture.
Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain fixed February 26 as the next date of hearing when the notice came on a petition filed by the Advocate H.C.Arora.
A PIL was filed by Arora, on January 6 alleging non-compliance of of the orders of the Court which was disposed of as infructous on the basis of an affidavit filed by an Under-Secretary.
In fact, H.C. Arora had initially moved the High Court for directions to the Punjab Government to declare the hideout of revolutionaries led by martyr Bhagat Singh at Toori Bazar a protected monument. The High Court was, however, informed that the hideout of the revolutionaries at Ferozepur situated in Toori Bazar has been declared protected.
It said the building where Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries stayed had been declared protected under the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964 and objections if any were also invited. But after the expiry of the period no further action has so far been taken by the department concerned for declaring it officialy and proceeding further to maintains it as protected monument.
Bhagat Singh’s grand nephew and President Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade has also urged the Union Home Ministry to publish an official list of martyrs of the independence movement besides putting other related demands to recognize the sacrifice of those who dedicated their lives for the freedom of India.
However, the Court bench, taking note of the basis of report of the government,, had disposed of the PIL filed as “not pressed” as the petitioner was satisfied with the state government’s action.
On contacting the various social activists in the city- Diwan Chand, Ashok Bajaj, Inder Singh Gogia, Dr.Butalia, A.C.Chawla – all were of the view that remembering Bhagat Singh who sacrificed his life is keeping him alive. The government must declare the hide out place of revolutionaries as protected monument and maintain it as a museum so that it may become a source of inspiration, . for the coming generations to dedicate themselves for the cause of nation.
