Release of Sugar Mill Fluid: Fishes, snakes found dead in Rajasthan Feeder in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 19, 2018: The impact of the polluted poisonous water due to alleged leakage from a tank belonging to a distillery at Village Kiri Afghana in Gurdaspur district on late Wednesday night, was seen in Ferozepur today when several water animals including fishes, snakes, were found dead in Sarhind Feeder and Rajasthan Feeder.
The matter came to fore when the divers were sieving Rajasthan Feeder in search of a body near Village Basti Bhag Singh, around 10 km away from district headquarter. During the search the divers found that several fishes and snakes dead. The divers Lakhbir, Raghubir and Rinku said that some of the fishes which were found dead were about 2.5 ft long.
The divers were even concerned about their safety. One of the divers said that water of feeder is stinking like they have never seen before. “We have been in this profession for so many years but we have not experienced like this”, said one of the divers.
When contacted, Charanjit Singh, DFO said that the area at which the incident took place falls under the jurisdiction of Pathankot. “There is no doubt several fishes have been killed due to the leakage in Harike Headworks. We will take strict action under Wild Life Protection Act”, said DFO Charanjit.
Added here, the Cabinet Minister, O.P.Soni had already ordered to seal the Chadha Sugar Mill in village Piri Afgana near Hargobindpur besides forfeiting the security of Rs.25 lac responsible for alleged leakage of polluted water in the river.
