Registration mandatory under JJ Act for institutions looking after destitute children

Ferozepur, November 29,2015: The Punjab Government is taking serious steps for the implementation of Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act 2007 more effectively and in this context, under directions of Director, the teams are inspecting the various child welfare institutions in the state, as per provisions of the Act.

Implementation of Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act 2007 is need of the hour, said S.S.Kang, Programme Manager, Child Welfare Schemes under Women and Child Development Department.

Kang said, it is mandatory for registration of any such institution working in the field of welfare of destitute children as per provisions of JJ Act so that there is no exploitation or child trafficking of destitute children living in government or non-government institutions.

He said, the government has already issued instructions in this regard to all unregistered institutions and the instant inspection in the state, is part of the same.

After inspecting Children Home Shanti Bhawan Missionary of Charitable Trust, Arya Anathalaya Ferozeur Cantt, Kang expressed his satisfaction over the lodging and boarding arrangements by the institutions. He however, desired that more modern facilities should be provided to the inmates.

Present on this occasion were, Ms.Swarnjit Kaur, Tejinder Dhamija, Social Worker, Ashish Kumar Sjharma, St.Rani Protection Officer, Baljinder Kaur, Legal Officer, Rakesh Mehta DSS, and K.C.Arora.
