Rakhra launches Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin at Ferozepur
Punjab has set aside Rs. 1000 crore for construction of toilets-Rakhra

Ferozepur, August 5, 2015: Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin was today launched in Ferozepur District by Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Punjab Surjit Singh Rakhra at a district level function organized by District Administration
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Mr. Rakhra said that Rs. 1000 crore would be spent under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin, a scheme launched by Prime Minister Narindera Modi, to ensure that every house of the state must have toilet. He said that union government has fixed a target of eliminating open defecation by the year 2017 but Punjab would meet this goal by the end end of 2015. He said that Centre is providing a grant of Rs 9 thousand and Punjab government of Rs. 6 thousand to people below poverty line to construct toilet at home. He gave a call to all the representatives of Gram Panchayats, Block Samittees and Zila Parishads to make it sure that every home in their area must have toilet in it.
Laying emphasis on the importance of this mission in his address, Mr. Kamal Nath, President Punjab BJP said that elimination of open defecation would decrease the risk of spread of deadly diseases besides help in creating the clean and safe environment. He expressed gratitude to Mr. Rakhra for launching this scheme in Ferozepur district.
Earlier, Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA, appealed the people of the area to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
Meanwhile, Er. DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur informed that with the construction of 43000 toilets in next one year, Ferozepur would be at first position in the state.
