Ferozepur, April 3, 2023: A tough and challenging political situation and fight over Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation case has been intensified after the Congress leader was disqualified from Lok Sabha due to his sentencing. In this context, during the on-going fight against targeting Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, a Samvidhan Bachao Campaign has been started by the Congress and State Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring during his visit to Ferozepur on Sunday, lashed out at the Centre government led by Narendra Modi, for BJP’s conspiracy to establish dictatorship in the country, when hundreds of Congress workers gathered at the house of Gurnam Singh Sher Khan. He asked the party workers to join the struggle in the fight against BJP for targeting Congress leaders.
Added here, Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief, was on March 23 held guilty in the defamation case by a court in Surat in Gujarat. The defamation case was filed against Gandhi on a complaint by BJPA and former Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi over his ‘how come all thieves have the common surname Modi’ remarks. The Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail and his 2 years prison sentence was suspended for 30 days. Following his conviction Gandhi was disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha. The former Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad made the remarks while addressing a rally during an election campaign in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, Rahul Gandhi is likely to challenge conviction seeking a stay on the order in a defamation case for a remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Harish Choudhary, General Secretary, All India Congress Committee and incharge of Punjab affairs, Kulbir Singh Zira, former MLA District Congress President and Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Youth Congress leader, and Ashu Banghar were also present.
Earlier, Sukhwinder Singh Danny Congress spokesperson has also condemned the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as MP, at the local Congress Bhawan saying that it is not understood as to why Rahul Gandhi is being targeted when BJP itself has 55 per cent MPs with serious charges.
During his address to the Congress workers, Raja Warring called on the party workers to mobilize for the struggle against BJP’s misuse of constitutional institutions to target opponents, especially Congress leaders and to create awareness among the people of BJP’s conspiracy to establish dictatorship in the country.
The Congress leaders said that due to the growing popularity of the All India Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi in the minds of the people of the country, the BJP party has become nervous. They asked the workers to join the fight against BJP for targeting Congress leaders by misusing the powers of various agencies under well-thought-out conspiracy.
