Railways celebrate Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada – “Say, No to Plastic”, to distribute One Lac Cloth Bags to passengers

Ferozepur, September 16, 2019:  Worried about the plastic waste on the railway premises and tracks, the Indian Railway has stated anti-plastic drive. Ferozepur Rail Division will distribute as many as one lac cloth bags during Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada celebrations to the passengers with special focus on ‘Say No To Plastic Waste. 

Indian Railways in the recent past had also undertaken such drives to enhance cleanliness through a collection of waste from all railway premises and now special focus on replacing plastics with alternatives.

Rajesh Aggarwal, DRM  will be interacting with the passengers at the railway station to appeal them to avoid use of plastic carry bags or bottles in trains and on railway premises.

Divisional Rail Manager, Ferozepur Division, Rajesh Aggarwal said, a mass campaign is being organized on September 17 with special center of attention on collection of plastic waste.  In this project, railway officers, employees, family members, pensioners, trade unions and social organizations will also participate in “Massive Sharmdan”.

He said, in the first phase, we concentrated on the railway stations and in the second phase, we will cover the cleanliness of entrance of railway stations and surroundings of railway office buildings and divisional hospital to collect the plastic waste also.

The vendors at the railway stations will also be educated not to use the paper cups instead of plastic packs, he added.

He said, more than one lac bags cloth bags for the ban of single-use plastic, will be distributed to the passengers besides installation of ‘bottle crushing macines’ at all the stations in the division which has already been installed at Shri Mata Vaisno Devi Katra and Ludhiana stations.

DRM made an appeal to the passengers to put the plastic bottles and other plastic material in these machines and say no to plastic.

The Swachchta fortnight will conclude on October 2, to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
